Film Simulation Presets
- Portra 160
Portra 160 was a total favorite for portrait photographers because it had this magic touch with skin tones—smooth, natural, and downright flattering. The fine grain gave your photos this soft, almost dreamy quality that made every shot feel timeless, whether it was a wedding, a family session, or just a candid moment. People loved how it took away the harsh edges and left you with something beautiful and classic. - Find the Kodak Portra 160 preset here.
- Portra 160NC
Portra 160NC was all about keeping it real. The “NC” stood for “natural color,” and that’s what made it a hit—colors stayed true to life, nothing too loud or fake. If you were the type who wanted your photos to look exactly like what you saw, this was your film. It was a go-to for anyone who loved that honest, no-frills vibe in their shots. - Portra 160VC
Portra 160VC brought a little extra spice to the table. With “VC” meaning “vivid color,” it bumped up the saturation just enough to make your photos feel richer and more alive. It wasn’t in-your-face vibrant—it still had that Portra charm—but it gave your images a subtle kick. Photographers grabbed it when they wanted a bit more energy without losing that soft, signature look. - Portra 400
Portra 400 was like the Swiss Army knife of films—you could use it anywhere, anytime. Bright sun? Dim room? Didn’t matter; it handled it all with ease. It struck this perfect balance of speed and quality, keeping grain in check and colors on point. It was the film you’d toss in your bag when you weren’t sure what the day would bring, knowing it wouldn’t let you down. Find the Kodak Portra 400 preset here. - Portra 400NC
Portra 400NC took that natural-color love from 160NC and gave it more oomph with higher speed. It was perfect for those who wanted true-to-life tones but needed to shoot in trickier light or faster moments. The colors stayed calm and classic, never overdone, which made it a favorite for anyone chasing that effortless, elegant feel in their work. - Portra 400VC
Portra 400VC was the pick when you wanted your colors to sing a little louder. The “vivid color” version added some extra contrast and pop, especially handy in mixed lighting. It made your photos feel bold and full of life without going overboard. Photographers loved it for capturing the buzz of outdoor shoots or lively events with a bit more flair. - Portra 800
Portra 800 was the hero of low-light shooting. Back when digital wasn’t an option, this film let you keep snapping in dim settings—think indoor parties or golden-hour fades—without always needing a flash. Yeah, it had a touch more grain, but that just added character. It was a must-have for photographers who refused to stop when the light got tough. Find the Kodak Portra 800 preset here.

- After applying a preset, you can start to make manual adjustments to fine-tune the image to your liking. Lightroom offers a large set of sliders and tools, allowing you to tweak many aspects of the image until you achieve the desired outcome.
- In some instances, a preset may alter the skin tone of persons captured in the photograph. In this cases, utilize Lightroom’s powerful color adjustment tools to refine the skin tone until it appears natural and flattering.
- For optimal results, it’s recommended to use presets on well-exposed, high-quality RAW & JPG photographs. Images that are overexposed, underexposed, or of poor quality may yield unsatisfactory results when presets are applied.
