About Legendary Presets

Legendary Presets builds film emulation presets for Adobe Lightroom – precise recreations of Agfa, Fuji, and Kodak film stocks for photographers who want the analog look without shooting on film.

We started in 2021 with a straightforward idea: most film preset packs on the market were approximations. They captured a general vibe but not the actual colour science of specific film stocks. Kodak Portra 400 doesn’t just look “warm” – it has a specific shadow tone, a particular highlight rolloff, and a skin rendering that took Kodak decades to engineer. We wanted presets that behaved like the real thing.

So we went back to the source. Every preset in our collection is built against scanned reference negatives and slides – actual film developed and scanned, not a digital approximation from memory. We study the per-channel tone curves, the HSL response, the grain structure, and the base+fog characteristics of each stock. Then we rebuild that in Lightroom’s develop module, test it across different camera sensors and lighting conditions, and refine until the digital result matches the film reference as closely as Lightroom’s tools allow.

That process takes longer than most preset makers are willing to spend. It’s why we cover 30+ film stocks across three brands – Agfa, Fuji, and Kodak – rather than releasing 200 generic “film-inspired” looks with different names.

What We Cover and Why

Agfa is the most overlooked of the three major film brands – discontinued in 2005, largely forgotten by the preset market, but genuinely distinct in its colour science. Agfa film had punchy contrast, saturated reds, and a colour rendering that sits between the warmth of Kodak and the precision of Fuji. We cover seven Agfa stocks including Vista 100, Vista 400, Vista 800, Optima 100, Precisa CT 100, Portrait XPS 160, and RSX II 100. Most of our Agfa film stock reviews rank in the top five results globally – that’s not accidental. We’ve put more research into Agfa’s colour history than any other preset site we’re aware of.

Fuji is where serious portrait and wedding photographers have lived for the last two decades. Fujifilm’s colour science is technically controlled in a way Kodak’s wasn’t – cool shadows, pastel greens, precise skin rendering. We cover 19 Fuji stocks, from the everyday Superia range through the professional Pro series to the iconic slide films: Velvia, Provia, Astia, Fortia, and the discontinued Sensia.

Kodak is the warm heart of American photography. Portra, Gold, Ektar, Ektachrome, Kodachrome – each one is a distinct colour philosophy. Kodachrome 64 looks nothing like Portra 400, and Ektar 100 is nothing like Gold 200. We treat them as separate subjects because they are.

We also cover black and white – Kodak Tri-X 400, T-Max 100/400/3200, Panatomic X, Fujifilm Neopan Acros 100, Neopan 400, and Agfa Scala 200X, the only black and white reversal film ever made commercially.

Beyond the Presets

Each preset pack ships with eight variations – Base, Vivid, Cool, Warm, Pulled, Pushed, Flat, and Balanced – because no single interpretation of a film stock works for every photo. A wedding reception shot needs different treatment than a daylight portrait even if both use Portra 400. The variations let you stay within the character of the film stock while adapting to the image in front of you.

We also publish film stock reviews, editing guides, and workflow articles. These aren’t marketing content – they’re the research we do anyway as part of building the presets, written up for photographers who want to understand what they’re working with. The Fujifilm Pro 400H review, the Kodak Tri-X 400 review, the Agfa Scala 200X review – these exist because we needed to understand the films deeply to build accurate presets.

Who Uses Legendary Presets

Wedding and portrait photographers who want the Portra or Pro 400H look without hours of manual editing. Street photographers chasing the Tri-X grain and contrast. Travel photographers who want Velvia’s saturation or Kodak Gold’s warmth. Photographers who shot on film and want their digital work to feel consistent with their analog archive.

Also photographers who’ve never touched film and just like how it looks – that’s completely valid. You don’t need to care about the history of Agfa Vista 400 to use the preset. But if you do care, we’ve written about it.

Pricing and Format

All Legendary Presets are available as .xmp files for Lightroom Classic and DNG files for Lightroom Mobile. They work on RAW and JPEG files, on Mac and Windows, across all current Lightroom versions.

Individual film stock packs start at accessible price points. Collection bundles – the Kodak Portra Collection, the Fujifilm Pro Bundle, the Agfa Bundle – bring the per-preset cost down significantly for photographers who want a complete toolkit rather than individual packs.

We don’t do subscriptions. You buy the preset, you own it.
