Kodachrome was already famous before Kodak discontinued it, its extremely fine grain and rich, stable color made it the film of choice for a generation of family archives and professional photographers alike, including National Geographic photographers who relied on it for decades of published work.

Part of what made it so distinct was also what made it hard to use: it required strict lab processing (the K-14 process) that regular one-hour photo labs couldn’t do, and its narrow exposure latitude meant there was little forgiveness for a wrong exposure setting.

Kodak announced the film’s discontinuation in June 2009, citing the shift to digital photography and declining demand for the specialized processing it required. The very last roll of Kodachrome ever made was processed at Dwayne’s Photo in Parsons, Kansas, on December 30, 2010.

No. Kodak discontinued Kodachrome production in 2009, and the last roll was processed in December 2010. There’s occasionally been talk in the photography world about a possible revival, but nothing has been confirmed as of now. These presets are built to recreate the look digitally since shooting the original film is no longer possible.

• Get closer: Step in or zoom to make your subject the star.
• Mix up angles: Try shooting high, low, or sideways for cooler shots.
• Clear the background: Keep it plain so your subject stands out, not the mess.
• Use a grid trick: Picture a tic-tac-toe board and put your subject where lines cross.
• Snap a bunch: More photos mean more chances for a winner.
• Edit easy: Just tweak brightness or color a bit—less is more.

Installing Presets in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 10.3+ (Windows & Mac)

1. Open your image in Adobe Photoshop.
2. At the top menue click on Filter and select “Camera Raw Filter”.
3. On the right you see the word “Basic” click the small burger next to it. Then, click “Load Settings”.
4. Choose the .xmp file(s) from downloaded and unzipped folder. Then click on “Load” button.
5. To apply a preset, click on OK button.
